Current acting contracts of Permanent Secretaries to end in June

The current acting contracts of the Permanent Secretaries will now end in June as the process to make the new appointments is still underway.

Attorney General and Minister for Public Service, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the Public Service Commission will be appointed first before the Permanent Secretary positions are advertised.

According to the constitution, the Constitutional Offices Commission consists of the Prime Minister who is the Chairman, the Leader of the Opposition, the Attorney General, two persons appointed by the President on the advice of the Prime Minister and one person appointed on the advice of the Leader of the Opposition.

The Public Service Commission consists of a Chairperson and not less than three or not more than five other members.

These appointments are made by the President on the advice of the Constitutional Offices Commission.
