The Government is yet to identify a substantive Attorney-General, with the search continuing for someone who can manage the workload of the position, while Hemendra Nagin is not being considered for the role at this stage.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka made the comments when asked about the appointment of a substantive Attorney-General, and talk of Suva lawyer, Nagin being considered for the role.
Rabuka says the current Attorney-General is still acting in the position, with the Government continuing to look for someone who can cope with the demands and workload of the office.
He says the workload has been challenging since Graham Leung left the position, with the pressure contributing to the need to find a substantive appointment.
Rabuka says the Government has not yet identified anyone to take up the position permanently.
When asked specifically whether Hemendra Nagin is being considered for the Attorney-General position, Rabuka says “not yet.”
