Convicted criminal causes a big commotion in Justice Temo's court room

About 8 police officers had to take one of the convicted criminals, Tevita Qaqanivalu from High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo’s court to the court house cell block in the last hour.

Justice Temo was interrupted by Qaqanivalu while he was delivering his sentence in the case of the Distill outlet robbery and the assault on former Police Commissioner Ben Groenewald in Flagstaff in May last year.

Qaqanivalu stood up and said that he wanted to file an application.

Justice Temo told him to sit down as the matter will be dealt with after the sentencing.

Qaqanivalu refused to sit down.

Justice Temo then asked a police officer to handcuff Qaqanivalu and make him sit down.

Qaqanivalu still refused to sit down and swore at the officer a few times.

The police officer could not get Qaqanivalu to sit down.

When Justice Temo saw that Qaqanivalu was not sitting down, he asked other police officers to take him down.

He was then taken down to the court cell block.

The judge has noted this incident and a decision is expected later.

Qaqanivalu and Mosese Tarau have been sentenced to 15 years in prison, Jeke Vakararawa has been sentenced to 9 years imprisonment, Seremaia Mudura has been sentenced to 13 years while Uate Baleiono will spend the next 11 years in prison.

Justice Salesi Temo found the five men guilty in relation to the robbery at the Distill outlet in Flagstaff in May, last year.

Ben Groenewald also received wounds during this incident while trying to stop the robbery.
