Chinese President arrives in Fiji

It is yet another historic day for Fiji today as the Chinese President, Xi Jinping arrived in the country for bilateral talks in Nadi.

This is the first ever visit by a Chinese President to Fiji.

The visit is also significant for the Pacific Island leaders as they are also in the country to meet Jinping in Denarau.

The Pacific Leaders also met the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi in Suva on Wednesday night.

President Jinping was welcomed by the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama at the Nadi International Airport at 6 this evening.

Later tonight, President Jinping will pay a courtesy call to Fijian President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau at the Sheraton Hotel.

This will be followed by a full traditional welcome ceremony by the people of Nakorotubu, Ra for the people of Fiji.

President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau will then host a state dinner for President Jinping.

Bilateral talks are expected to be held between Prime Minister Bainimarama and President Jinping at 9.45am tomorrow. 

They will then sign a number of Memorandums of Understanding.

A number of agreements will also be signed with other Pacific Island countries.

At about 5pm tomorrow, the historic meeting between Jinping and the Pacific Leaders will take place in Nadi.

President Jinping will leave the country on Sunday morning.
