A childhood fascination with motorcycles grew into a lifelong passion for a Laucala Beach resident who now advocates men’s health in Fiji.
Taslim Shah developed interest in motorcycles after watching riders pass through his neighbourhood as a boy, a passion that later shaped his role in the Fiji Motorcyclists Association and community-driven events.
Fiji Motorcyclists Association Executive Taslim Shah shares that after leaving school and beginning work at 16, he started saving towards his goal and bought his first quad bike in 2015.
He says the bike, a 250cc quad, was his first real experience of riding and marked the beginning of his journey into the world of motorcycling.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Motorcyclists Association is hosting its first-ever bike show in the Central Division from 7pm to 11pm tomorrow at the Fortech Complex Carpark in Nokonoko, Laucala Beach.
The event is being held in partnership with Constructive Solutions Pte Ltd, the Fiji Cancer Society, and the Land Transport Authority to open discussions, reduce stigma, and provide a platform to educate the public about men’s health.
Shah says the show will feature over 100 motorcycles and up to 12 or 13 specially selected cars.
He adds that the Fiji Cancer Society will be present to provide information on early detection of prostate cancer and to raise awareness about men’s mental health.
He also notes that road safety will be a key focus, with Land Transport Authority officers in attendance to speak about safe driving practices around motorcyclists.
Shah highlights that despite protective gear, motorcyclists remain exposed and vulnerable to serious injuries or fatalities.
The Movember Bike Show is free to attend tomorrow and open to the public.
