Cash and assorted items ranging from $15 to over $20,500 were stolen based on statistics released for October this year that related to the alleged aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and theft offences which consisted of home invasions, shop and minimart burglaries, carjacking, day and night street robberies.

The data released by the Office of the Public Prosecutions is confined to incidents of serious crimes other than sexual violence offences which are recorded and published separately.

The Office of the DPP says there were 35 people charged with a total of 42 counts of serious offences in October.

There was 1 count of manslaughter, 5 counts of aggravated robbery, 11 counts of aggravated burglary, 10 counts of theft, 1 count of assault causing actual bodily harm, 7 counts of act with intent to cause grievous harm, 1 count of grievous harm, 1 count of criminal intimidation, 1 count of criminal trespass, 1 count of attempted arson, 1 count of child stealing, 1 count of escape from lawful custody, and 1 count of breach of suspended sentence.

There were 30 victims of the 42 counts of serious offences.

There were six incidents where the accused and the victim were related to one another.

Of the 35 accused persons, eight were juveniles.

In one of the incidents, two 15-year-old boys and a 16-year-old boy have been charged with the aggravated robbery of a mobile phone and $35 cash from a 14-year-old boy.

In another incident, two 16-year-old boys were charged with the aggravated burglary and theft of assorted clothes and $15 cash from a clothing store.

A 17-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man have been charged with the aggravated burglary and theft of a wrist watch from a 48-year-old man’s house.

In another incident, a 16-year-old boy was charged with the aggravated burglary and theft of an iPad and a laptop from a 39-year-old man’s house.

A 14-year-old boy was charged with aggravated burglary and theft, however, this matter was discontinued due to insufficient evidence.

As the statistics are released, many people have contacted fijivillage News saying they are seriously concerned about the number of home invasions and robberies.

We are in the process of getting comments from Police.
