The Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office Pramesh Chand has confirmed that the interim cabinet ministers did not have their pay deducted by five percent when the pay cut was implemented in the civil service last year.
Chand told Fijivillage News that they have explained the reasons already and as far as the Prime Minister's office is concerned, it is now a non issue.
Chand also maintains that the interim ministers not having to undergo the five percent pay cut was made public last year.
However, Fiji Public Service Association General Secretary Rajeshwar Singh said that no excuse can justify such actions.
Singh stresses that it may be a non issue for the government, but for thousands of civil servants around the country, it is still a very serious matter.
