The Ba Chamber of Commerce believes there should be an alert system put in place to monitor future disasters.
Ba businessman, Daniel Elisha said they will work with government and other organisations in making sure that everyone is prepared before a disaster hits.
The call has come to help ourselves.
That is the belief of hundreds of people sheltering at the Votua Catholic school evacuation centre in Ba who are now helping each other to gather food for them.
While food rations from the government have arrived, the evacuees are now going out to farms and the sea to look for food.
This is being done as Votua Catholic School has a total of 756 people, the highest in any of the evacuation centers in Ba.
An evacuee, Akeneta Niubalavu said they have discussed how they can play their part and not just rely on handouts.
Niubalavu said their main concern is the lack of baby food.
A total of 1,924 people are taking shelter at 27 evacuation centers in Ba.
