Fiji’s biggest tourist source market, Australia has upgraded its international travel advice to the highest level, with all citizens adviced not to travel overseas because of COVID-19.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said it was the first time travel advice has been escalated to "do not travel" abroad.

He told reporters in Canberra do not go overseas, that is very clear, that instruction.

Morrison also announced a blanket ban on indoor gatherings of more than 100 people under new coronavirus measures this morning.

Morrison said states and territories would enforce the tough new restrictions with immediate effect and could last for at least six months.

The restrictions on indoor gatherings do not apply to workplaces, public transport, supermarkets, shops and shopping malls. Correctional facilities, youth justice centres and courts are also free from the bans. For outdoor areas, the limits remains at 500.

He also says schools will remain open for now, despite growing concerns around the country.

There are now about 454 cases of COVID-19 in Australia.
