Assistant Education Minister calls for support in helping children develop good reading habits

Reading can help us explore and find a deeper sense of purpose in life.

Assistant Minister for Education, Iliesa Vanawalu highlighted this during the opening of the National Library Week Celebrations 2024 at Labasa College this morning.

Vanawalu says this week should be used to create more awareness on the importance of reading and stressed the crucial role of school libraries in supporting education and enhancing classroom learning.

He is encouraging parents and community members to support children in developing good reading habits and also make use of the public libraries.

The theme for this year is “Ready, Set, Library,” which showcases how libraries connect people, offer new skills and provide diverse stories.

National Library Week will continue with various activities and events throughout the week, celebrating the importance of libraries and reading.
