The Medical Superintendent of St. Giles Hospital, Doctor Peni Biukoto has been asked if he can give a guarantee that Apete Kaisau will not commit another crime when he is discharged from St. Giles Hospital.
Apete Kaisau admitted killing Fiji Red Cross boss John Scott and Gregory Scrivener in July 2001 however he was not convicted on the murders on the grounds of insanity.
High Court Judge, Justice Salesi Temo told Doctor Biukoto who is a witness in this case to give a guarantee that Kaisau will not be a harm to himself or others when he returns to the community.
Justice Temo says he does not want their decision to have gaps and see what happened in 2001 repeated.
Doctor Biukoto says there is always a risk involved in this type of cases and he cannot give an assurance that Kaisau would commit such an offence.
He says it will also depend on Kaisau’s honesty.
He also revealed that if Kaisau is off on treatment or medication, his illness is likely to relapse within one to three months.
