A 42-year-old father has been sentenced to 12-years imprisonment for raping his 14-year-old daughter in the Northern Division.
The incident occurred on the 31st of December last year.
The man had pleaded guilty to his charge.
While giving the sentence, High Court Judge Justice, Daniel Goundar says that the father’s conduct towards his daughter must be denounced in the strongest term.
Justice Goundar says the man was responsible to protect her from abuse and sexual violence but instead he used her as an object of his lust.
He added that the man raped his daughter at the age of 14, impregnated her and destroyed not only her body but her soul adding that the primary purpose of his sentence is to deter him and others from this kind of deviant sexual behaviour.
A non-parole period of ten years has been set.
