A $3 million Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory has opened at the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital in Nasese, extending their services to adults as well as children.
Director Dr Krupali Tappoo says the cath lab is the first biplane cardiac catheterisation laboratory in the Pacific, equipped with advanced technology.

Dr Tappoo adds that since April 2022, the hospital has already provided free heart surgeries to 445 children, and the new lab will further improve patient outcomes and expand services.
She also acknowledged the support from international partners, engineers, and medical specialists who assisted with the installation, training, and setup of the facility.
Meanwhile, President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu says the hospital represents a powerful example of compassion and service, especially in helping the poor and underprivileged.
He shares that his experiences with the hospital and similar institutions abroad have changed his perspective, particularly in seeing how free healthcare and support services can transform lives.
The President says Fiji, as a developing country with limited resources, greatly benefits from such partnerships and support from the international community.
He adds that initiatives like this show the importance of unity and working together beyond borders to improve lives.
During the inauguration Chairman of the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital, Sumeet Tappoo says the new cath lab marks the beginning of a new chapter in healthcare for Fiji and the Pacific.
He says the hospital will now extend free high-quality heart procedures not only to children but also to adults, bringing hope to thousands of families across the region.
Tappoo highlights that the project was made possible through the generosity of donors from the United States and Fiji, who supported fundraising efforts through various initiatives.
He says the donation is not just about providing equipment but giving a second chance at life to patients who may not have had access to treatment.
Sri Madhusudan Sai stresses the expansion of services from children to adults marks a major milestone for the hospital, describing it as a significant step forward for a facility that is only four years old.
He says this will allow more people in Fiji and across the Pacific to access free healthcare services.
Sadhguru further stresses the importance of not only treating diseases but also focusing on education and prevention, while noting that the new facility will reduce the need for patients to travel overseas for treatment.
He adds that the mission remains committed to expanding services and helping more people, guided by the principle of “One World, One Family.”
