A 17-year-old boy who allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl in Lakeba earlier this month has been granted bail by the Suva Magistrates Court.
The 17-year-old is facing one count of criminal trespass and one count of rape.
Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili has today transferred the case to the Suva High Court which will be called on the 27th of this month.
The alleged incident happened on the 6th of January when the victim and the boy went to attend a program at the village hall.
It is alleged that the girl had consumed homebrew after which she went home and fell asleep on the front porch of the house.
It is also alleged that the boy saw the girl sleeping on the porch and dragged her to a nearby vacant house and raped her.
The court heard that some children who were playing nearby, saw what had happened and told the victim’s father who then reported the matter to police.
