A second drowning incident this long weekend has claimed the life of a 15-year-old student.

Assistant Police spokesperson Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said the 15-year-old student was swimming in the Nasivi River in Vatukoula with his friends and family at around 4pm on Boxing Day when he went missing.

According to Sokomuri, the mother of the deceased thought he had taken the lead home however when they reached home, the 15-year-old student was not at home.

A search was conducted and the body was found yesterday evening at around 8.30 some 200 meters away from where the boy was last seen.

Sokomuri has urged parents to be extra careful around their children.
