The Fiji Red Cross volunteer teams have been out and about during this rainy season, assisting and handing out relief supplies to families that have been affected by the recent flood in the west.

As of yesterday afternoon, the Red Cross Ba Volunteer team completed its assessments and also provided support to four families affected by the recent floods, totalling 23 people, including one person living with a disability.

The team also assisted a family impacted by a landslide at the Badrau settlement in Ba.

Fiji Red Cross says the team raised awareness about Leptospirosis, Typhoid, Dengue Fever, and Diarrhea during their visits to ensure families are informed and prepared.

The Red Cross Lautoka Volunteer team provided support to 40 people who have taken shelter at the Lovu Sangam School evacuation centre, and the team also conducted a thorough assessment to address their immediate needs.

The team also conducted awareness sessions on Leptospirosis, Dengue Fever, Typhoid, and Diarrhea to help prevent the spread of these diseases.

Fiji Red Cross says their volunteers in Tavua have been working tirelessly to support families taking shelter at the Tavua District School evacuation centre.

They say after completing assessments with the four families sheltering at the evacuation centre, the team distributed Dignity Kits and Black Packs to provide much-needed relief.

In addition to delivering these essential items, their volunteers conducted awareness sessions on preventing Leptospirosis, Dengue Fever, Diarrhea, and Typhoid.

These diseases pose serious risks after disasters, and sharing knowledge is key to keeping our communities safe and healthy.

The Fiji Red Cross team is grateful to the assistance of Frezco Beverages Pte Limited for donating cartons of bottled water for those families sheltering at the Andrews Primary School evacuation centre in Nadi.
