Police are verifying claims made on social media of an alleged attempted child abduction at a school in Nausori after a post identified a man who has since denied the allegation and told Police he had gone to the school to see his daughter.
Following the circulation of the social media post, Nausori Police carried out initial enquiries and confirmed that the matter remains under investigation.
Police have also confirmed that the man identified in the post has lodged a report at the Lami Police Station.
He told Police that he had gone to the school to see his daughter, not for the reasons claimed in the social media post.
The man says he only became aware of the allegations after family members alerted him when they saw the post online, prompting him to report the matter to Police.
Police say investigations are continuing to establish the facts, with more people expected to be questioned.
They are urging members of the public to report incidents directly to Police and allow investigators to carry out their work before drawing conclusions.
Police are also reminding the public that the 1681 toll-free number can be used to report crimes, suspicious people or activities, as well as complaints against Police and concerns about service delivery.
