Voting for the 2018 general elections is now ending at 1,503 polling stations in Fiji and people should expect the first set of provisional results from the National Count Centre in Suva by 7.30pm tonight.

550,220 voters are eligible to vote in this election and we are now awaiting the confirmed total number of registered voters who have cast their vote.

In the 2014 general elections, voter turnout was 83.90%.

The total amount of valid votes were 496,364 while the total number of invalid votes were 3,714.

Earlier in the day, concerns were raised about the low voter turnout at some polling stations in the urban areas due to heavy rain.

However reports had come in this afternoon that more people had started going to the polling stations after lunch time.

Many people were seen braving the rain and making their way to the polling stations throughout today.

Meanwhile Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says that 17 polling venues have become inaccessible to voters and he had adjourned the voting at those venues effective immediately.

Saneem says that due to the weather conditions, this step was taken and this will affect 6,094 voters.

He says he has consulted the Electoral Commission and these venues will have elections at a later date that will be feasible for elections.

The venues closed in the Korovou Area include, Delakano FEO Shed, Natadra-dave FEO Shed, Nasinu Community Hall, Turagabeci Primary School, Lodoni Primary School and Naivicula District School.

In Rakiraki the venues that have been closed are Korotale Mandir, Raiwasa Community Hall, Na-mua-niwaqa Primary School, Mataso Primary School and Rewasasa Community Hall,

Nausori Technical School, Visama Sanathan Dharam Primary School, Naqeledamu Village School venues have been closed in the Nausori area.

Nukutocia Village Shed in Levuka and Naisoqo Settlement FEO Ground Shed and Shantiniketan Primary School in the Central Division have been closed for polling.

Stay with us for live coverage of the 2018 general elections results.

We will have live updates with analysis of the results as they start coming in from the National Count Centre.

At the count centre, things have started to move to the next stage.

Pre poll votes and postal votes will also be counted from this hour.

69,472 voters were eligible to vote during pre poll.

The Fijian Elections Office has confirmed that from this, there was 64 percent turnout for pre-poll

The Fijian Elections Office has also received 7,793 postal ballot papers so far.

You can follow the live updates on Legend FM and there will be continuous live coverage until tomorrow morning on our facebook page, fijivillage.

According to the Fijian Elections Office we should have all the provisional results of this year’s general elections announced by 7am tomorrow.
