Police now investigating alleged tampering of Year 12 examination papers at a Nausori based school

Another case of alleged tampering of this year's external examination papers is now in the spotlight.

Police have now confirmed that they are investigating the alleged tampering of the Year 12 external examination papers at Lelean Memorial School.

Spokesperson, Ana Naisoro says a report has been received at the Nausori Police Station.

The exam supervisor made the discovery yesterday and found some of the sealed portions of the exam papers were already open.

12,900 students started sitting for the Year 12 external exam yesterday.

When questioned by Fijivillage on the cases of alleged external exam paper tampering, the Ministry said in a statement that it is aware of an allegation of breaking and entering into Lelean Memorial School to get access to the examination papers for Year 12.

The Ministry says Police are investigating and, as a result, the Ministry is not in a position to comment.

However, exams for Year 12 at Lelean started yesterday and will continue as scheduled.

In a separate incident, the headteacher of Nabau District School in Rakiraki and their Year 6 teacher have been suspended by the Education Ministry for allegedly opening the packaging of the Year 6 external exam paper and revising it with the students.

It is alleged that the headteacher and the class teacher opened the packaging of the external exam papers one week before the exam began.

The headteacher and the Year 6 class teacher are also alleged to have answered the questions in the paper and asked all the year 6 students to cram the answers.

The papers which the class teacher is alleged to have been revising with the students are the mathematics paper, English essay question and some parts of the general subjects and the Itaukei paper.

Fijivillage has been informed that a teacher who was supervising the year 6 students saw the students revising the papers and reported the matter to the ministry.

Meanwhile, Minister for Education, Rosy Akbar says those who have been implicated are suspended.

She says they will definitely take strict action against any breaches in examination policies.

Akbar has warned heads of schools to adhere to policies and rules within the Ministry so that exams are fair and transparent.

When asked if a police complaint has been filed, Akbar says they are in the initial stage of the investigation in Rakiraki and as they move forward and come with concrete evidence, they definitely will.
