Concerns over illegal dumping by coconut sellers along Naivorovoro Road in Nakasi have prompted the Nausori Town Council to take action, with the council saying notices have been issued and the matter has been referred to Police.

Concerned resident Shom Jeet informed fijivillage News this morning that coconut waste and other rubbish are being dumped in the drains and along the roadside near Saint Joseph the Worker Primary School, causing the rubbish to continue accumulating.

He also alleges that some coconut sellers harass drivers and members of the public into buying coconuts, at times moving in front of vehicles to slow them down in an attempt to make sales.

Responding to our questions, Nausori Town Council CEO Rajesh Kumar says the council has been removing the rubbish and will continue collecting waste from the area.

Kumar says he has personally visited the area and confirms that coconut sellers have been illegally dumping waste.

He says the matter has been referred to Police and the sellers have already been issued notices.

Kumar says he has also personally assured the complainants that the council is aware of the issue and that the rubbish is being collected.

He says the council will continue to monitor the area and take the necessary action.
