Belgium and Iran played out a tense 0-0 draw in their FIFA World Cup Group G clash, with both sides unable to find a breakthrough despite creating several chances.

Belgium were forced to play with ten men after defender Nathan Ngoy was shown a red card, leaving the Europeans to battle through much of the contest a player short.

Iran thought they had taken the lead through striker Mehdi Taremi following a well-worked free-kick routine, but the goal was ruled out for offside, much to the frustration of the Iranian side.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Belgium defended resolutely to earn a valuable point and remain in contention in Group G.

The result follows Belgium's 1-1 draw against Egypt in their opening match, while Iran had previously shared the points in a 2-2 draw with New Zealand.

With both teams still searching for their first win of the tournament, the race for qualification from Group G remains wide open heading into the final round of group matches.

Earlier this morning, Spain thrashed Saudi Arabia 4-0.

Meanwhile, Uruguay will face Cabo Verde at 10am while New Zealand will play Egypt at 1pm.
