Mikel Merino scored the only goal of the match in the 91st minute as Spain beat Portugal 1-0 to secure their place in the FIFA World Cup quarter finals.
The last-16 clash appeared to be heading towards extra time before Merino struck in stoppage time to seal the win for Spain.
The two sides were locked at nil-all at half-time and remained scoreless through the regulation 90 minutes before the late breakthrough.
After the final whistle, disappointment was seen on Christiano Ronaldo's face as this will be his last World Cup.
Spain will now face the winner of the USA and Belgium last-16 clash in the quarter-finals.
