France hold a 1-0 lead over Iraq in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group I clash, although the match remains suspended due to severe weather conditions.

Captain Kylian Mbappé scored the only goal of the match in the 14th minute to give the French the advantage.

FIFA says the match was suspended due to adverse weather conditions and the risk of lightning in the vicinity of the stadium.

A 30-minute delay was initially announced, however officials continue to monitor the situation to determine whether further delays will be required.

FIFA says it will follow safety protocols established by local authorities and the match will resume as soon as it is safe to do so.

It says the safety and security of all individuals remains its top priority and has thanked fans for their understanding and cooperation.

France are looking to secure their second straight win of the tournament after opening their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Senegal.

The French are ranked second in the latest FIFA World Rankings and are making their 17th FIFA World Cup appearance. They are two-time world champions, having won the title in 1998 and 2018.

Iraq are aiming to fight their way back into the contest after suffering a 4-1 loss to Norway in their opening Group I match.

The Iraqis are ranked 58th in the FIFA World Rankings and are making their second FIFA World Cup appearance.

France will conclude their Group I campaign against Norway at 7am on Saturday, while Iraq will face Senegal at the same time.

Meanwhile, in other matches, Argentina defeated Austria 2-0 earlier this morning.
