I'm concerned by the disturbing video circulating on social media showing a taxi driver being attacked and robbed while driving.
Those are the comments of Minister for Lands, Filimoni Vosarogo as he says what we see in that video is not only unacceptable but extremely dangerous.
Speaking as a Government Minister and a responsible citizen, Vosarogo says an attack on a driver while a vehicle is moving could easily result in the loss of innocent lives.
He says he stands in solidarity with our taxi drivers across Fiji as they provide an important service to our communities, often working long hours and late into the night, away from their families, to earn an honest living and provide for those who depend on them.
Vosarogo says no one should have to fear being assaulted or robbed simply for going to work.
He urges everyone, particularly our young people, to think carefully about the choices they make and to use their abilities and energy towards something positive, towards building themselves, supporting their families and contributing to their communities.
The Minister is confident that the Fiji Police Force will thoroughly investigate this incident and take appropriate action.
Vosarogo says those responsible for such acts must understand that violence and robbery have no place in our society.
He adds his thoughts are with the driver and his family, as well as all taxi drivers who continue to serve our communities every day.
