Nadi International Airport is currently facing a jet fuel shortage and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka says fuel is being prioritised for contracted operators like Fiji Airways, and medical evacuation services are protected.
We have received confirmed reports that jet fuel received from one of the suppliers cannot be used at this stage.
When asked by fijivillage News, Gavoka confirms that a supply-chain issue is affecting Jet A-1 fuel availability and is being managed by the fuel suppliers and airlines.
Gavoka says a Notice to Airmen has been issued, fuel is being prioritised for contracted operators and medical evacuation, and Fiji Airports is coordinating closely with all stakeholders.
The Deputy Prime Minister says the airport remains fully operational, and fuel suppliers have advised that stocks are expected to normalize by the end of August.
Gavoka says flights all over the world are returning to normal, but jet fuel supplies are still not fully restored to meet global demand.
He says it is improving gradually and should stabilize soon.
Gavoka assures people that they are managing well.

The Deputy Prime Minister reiterates that Fiji Airways is included under the category of 'contracted operators' who are being prioritized.
He says those outside of that category are expected to fill up at ports outside of Fiji.
When approached by fijivillage News, Fiji Airways states that safety remains Fiji Airways’ absolute priority, and the airline does not anticipate any disruption to flights or guests, having already secured alternative fuel supplies to manage a minor, temporary jet fuel supply constraint at Nadi International Airport, following a recent delivery from one of the airline's suppliers that cannot presently be used.
Fiji Airways says it is working closely with relevant government agencies, Fiji Airports Limited and industry partners to ensure operations continue smoothly, with all fuel subject to Fiji Airways’ rigorous testing and clearance requirements before use.
