Bose Levu Vakaturaga Bill an opportunity to correct past mistake and bring healing – Kamikamica

Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica says the proposed Bose Levu Vakaturaga Bill is an opportunity to correct what he describes as a mistake by the previous Government and help bring healing to the country.

Kamikamica says the previous Government disrespected and derecognised the Bose Levu Vakaturaga, and the proposed legislation provides an opportunity to address this.

He says the Bill would help return the Bose Levu Vakaturaga to what he describes as its rightful place in Fijian society.

Cabinet has endorsed the start of a stand-alone legislative process to establish the Bose Levu Vakaturaga under the Constitution and in law.

The Ministry of iTaukei Affairs is required to carry out further consultations with relevant iTaukei institutions under the iTaukei Affairs Act 1944, before the Bill returns to Cabinet for final consideration and introduction in Parliament.
