Safety and security along the Suva-Nausori corridor have been strengthened, with Minister for Policing Ioane Naivalurua confirming that 230 CCTV cameras have been installed at 50 sites along the corridor, with 75 cameras installed between the Suva Bus Stand and the Suva Market area.
While responding to a question from Opposition MP Virendra Lal on the recent increase in CCTV camera installations along public roads within the Central Division, Naivalurua says the crime and security landscape has changed significantly.
He says there is a need to adopt the most effective means of addressing some of the challenges faced by Police in ensuring that communities and people are safe and secure.

He says there has been significant investment in the CCTV camera installation programme under the Fiji Police Force Safe City Project, which is part of the four-year Fiji Police Force Strategic Plan 2025-2029.
The Minister says currently, 97 cameras are in operation, with 12 installed around Ratu Sukuna Park and eight around Albert Park, while a further 15 cameras are expected to be installed in the coming months.
Naivalurua adds that two cameras have been installed around Stinson Parade, with more cameras to be installed beyond the Central Business District, including in Nasese, Flagstaff and Toorak.

He says there are also plans to expand the CCTV network to the Western Division along the Nadi-Lautoka corridor.
He says the high-resolution cameras will assist Police with identification, monitoring and recording activities within the areas covered.
When questioned by Opposition MP Premila Kumar on the monitoring of the CCTV cameras, Naivalurua says all cameras within the city area are now centralised and can be monitored from the Police Command Centre at Totogo Police Station.
