Organisers of the 70th FMF Hibiscus Festival have reassured the public that comprehensive measures are in place to protect Albert Park and ensure a safe and successful celebration.
Festival Chair, Doctor John Fatiaki says their engineers have assessed the site and established clear weight restrictions for all stalls, amusement rides, staging and other festival infrastructure.
He says every vendor and operator has been advised of these requirements and must comply with the approved limits and installation procedures.
Following public concerns regarding possible damage to the park, Doctor Fatiaki says they recognise the considerable investment that has gone into developing and maintaining Albert Park and they share the public’s interest in ensuring that the grounds are properly protected.
He adds the festival organisers have followed all relevant protocols and worked closely with technical teams to ensure that the equipment is positioned and installed safely.
Albert Park falls under the responsibility of the Suva City Council, which is also an organiser of the FMF Hibiscus Festival.
The organisers say they are also mindful of the cultural and historical importance of the Hibiscus Festival to the people of Suva and Fiji.
The 2026 Hibiscus Festival starts this Saturday and ends with the crowning of the Miss Hibiscus on Saturday 5th September.
