Hundreds of residents experiencing water cuts after a pipeline burst at Tamavua-i-Wai should expect supply to be restored tonight as repair works continue.
The Water Authority of Fiji says its operations teams were deployed early this morning after the pipeline rupture affected water supply in Tamavua-i-Wai and surrounding areas.

WAF says the damaged pipeline was successfully isolated at around 10am, and crews are now carrying out site preparation work to expose the damaged section of the pipeline.

The authority says repairs are being undertaken carefully as the burst is located close to the Tamavua-i-Wai River, making the work more challenging.

WAF expects repairs to be completed later this evening, after which water supply will be gradually restored as reservoirs are refilled and water pressure across the network returns to normal.

Communities affected areas are likely to continue experiencing low water pressure or intermittent water supply while the repair works are underway.

To minimise the impact on affected communities, WAF says water carting services are being provided, with priority given to schools, essential services and the Lami area throughout the day and into the evening.

The authority is also urging customers to conserve water and use it wisely until normal supply is fully restored.
