The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions says charges against Domoniko Tabao and Jone Rakatia over the alleged attempted murder of a female police officer at the Laqere checkpoint on the 26th of April this year were discontinued due to insufficient evidence.
The ODPP confirms to fijivillage News that after careful consideration of the evidence, legal analysis and the law, the charges against the two men were discontinued by way of nolle prosequi because there was insufficient evidence to proceed.
The ODPP says this does not prevent the State from re-laying charges against the two men should new evidence emerge.
Meanwhile, the charges against co-accused Saimoni Rokotunidau will continue.
Rokotunidau is charged with one count of attempted murder, one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs, one count of going equipped, one count of serious assault, and one count of refusing to have his fingerprints and photographs taken.
