Families in parts of Lautoka may experience low water pressure or temporary water cuts overnight as prolonged dry weather continues to reduce water flows into the Saru water system.
The Water Authority of Fiji says the Varaqe intake normally supplies about 6.5 million litres of raw water a day to the Saru Water Treatment Plant, but this has dropped by about 20 percent to 5.2 million litres.
WAF says it will carry out controlled valve operations between 9pm and 4am to allow the Saru reservoir to recover and help maintain water supply during the day.
Areas that may be affected include Banaras, Natokowaqa, Field 40, Balawa, Natabua Heights, Natabua Housing, Saru Back Road, Navula Road, Vuda Back Road, Wairabetia, Velovelo, Lauwaki, Viseisei East and elevated areas of Padarath Road.
WAF says the impact may differ each night depending on reservoir levels and water usage.
WAF says water carting will be arranged where needed, with priority given to essential needs and customers facing prolonged interruptions.
Customers are being encouraged to store a reasonable amount of water for essential overnight use and conserve water, particularly during peak demand periods between 6am and 9am and between 5pm and 8pm.
WAF says the overnight valve operations may continue while water flows at the Varaqe intake remain low.
