Two Cricket Fiji staff members Joeli Mateyawa Seuvou and Vulisere Waqavakatoga have taken an important step in their coaching careers after successfully completing the 2026 ICC East Asia Pacific Level 1 Coach Tutor Course in Brisbane, Australia.
The Cricket Fiji Development Manager and Development Officer completed the three-day course earlier this month and are now recognised as ICC Tutors.
The course focused on preparing participants to train, develop and support coaches in their respective countries.
Seuvou says the programme had given him and Waqavakatoga a better understanding of how to develop coaches and, more importantly, how to teach and support them effectively.
He says they could now bring the knowledge gained from the course back to Fiji and use it to help strengthen the country's coaching system.
As ICC Tutors, Seuvou and Waqavakatoga will support Cricket Fiji in developing more quality coaches and delivering ICC-recognised coaching programmes locally.
The ICC Training and Education programme provides structured learning pathways for coaches, umpires, scorers and pitch curators around the world, with a key focus on helping Associate Members build their own trained and accredited workforce.
Cricket Fiji CEO Anushil Kumar says the organisation was grateful to ICC East Asia Pacific for providing the opportunity to Seuvou and Waqavakatoga.
Kumar says Cricket Fiji would continue to prioritise the professional development of its staff across different areas, as investing in its people would help strengthen the workforce, improve programme delivery and create more opportunities for the growth of cricket in Fiji.
The next step will be for Cricket Fiji and its newly recognised Tutors to work with ICC East Asia Pacific on a country plan and identify the next priorities for coach education and development in Fiji.
The appointment of Seuvou and Waqavakatoga as ICC Tutors will give Cricket Fiji additional capacity to build a stronger and more sustainable coaching system from the grassroots level upwards.
