The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s Team is out of the cup competition of the Vancouver 7s after they lost their quarter-final match 17-5 against New Zealand.

Fiji struggled to find their rhythm as New Zealand had a brick wall defence and attacked the rucks strategically. When Fiji had the ball, they found it difficult to go through the Kiwi defence. Most of the times when they managed to go through, they made simple errors or lacked support play.

Tim Mikkelson scored New Zealand’s first try after Vilimoni Botitu knocked the ball on. New Zealand led 5-0.

Sione Molia scored New Zealand’s second try as they extended their lead to 12-0.

It was a error ridden first half from Fiji as they trailed 12-0.

Josua Vakurunabili scored for Fiji to close the gap to 12-5 but Joe Ravouvou scored New Zealand’s third try to seal the win for the All Blacks 7s team.

Fiji will now play USA in the 5th place semi-final at 9.30am.

New Zealand will now play South Africa in the first Cup semifinal at 10.14am today. Australia will play hosts, Canada in the second semi final.

South Africa beat USA 26-10 in their quarter final, Australia beat England 31-12 while Canada beat Spain 21-0.
