The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team finished in 9th position at the Hamilton 7s tournament after defeating rivals South Africa 12-5 in their 9th place play-offs.


Fijiana lose to Russia in 7th place play-offs

The Fijiana 7s team finished in 8th position at the Hamilton 7s after losing 21-26 to Russia in the 7th place-off.

Fiji started the match well, with a try each from Aloesi Nakosi and Tokasa Seniyasi as they led Russia 14-7 at half time.

Russia came back firing in the second spell scoring three tries and a penalty try which resulted in a yellow card to Viniana Riwai for a high tackle.

Seniyasi scored her second try of the match in the last minute of the game but it was not enough to give them the win.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Men’s 7s team will play South Africa at 5.16pm  in the 9th place play-offs.

 

 



New Zealand to face France in the Hamilton 7s final

New Zealand Men’s 7s team will face France in the final of the Hamilton 7s tournament.

This is after New Zealand defeated Australia 17-14 in a close encounter while France surprised England 10-5 in the first semi-final.

Meanwhile, the Black Ferns will take on Canada in the Women’s final.

The Black Ferns thumped France 19-7 while Canada defeated Australia 28-19.

The Men’s final will be at 7.56pm while the Women’s final will be at 7.36pm.

 

 



Baber not impressed with Fiji’s performance after their 26-10 loss to Argentina

Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s coach Gareth Baber was not impressed with Fiji’s performance in their match against Argentina which ended their reign as Hamilton 7s champions.

Baber says they will be evaluating their games this week and will try to improve in the Sydney 7s next week.


Fiji will take on South Africa at 5.16pm in the 9th place place-offs.

Meanwhile, New Zealand will take on France at 7.56pm today in the Men’s final.



Fiji beats South Africa 12-5 in the 9th Place Play-Off

The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team finished in 9th position at the Hamilton 7s tournament after defeating rivals South Africa 12-5 in their 9th place play-offs.

Fiji’s defence and attack was tested in the first half of the match and they could not cross over the white mark.

South Africa led Fiji 5-0 at the break.

Fiji rallied back in the second half and their first try came from impact player, Kavekini Tabu.

Napolioni Bolaca sealed the win for Fiji as he scored Fiji’s second try with just few seconds left to go in the final minutes of the second half.

Winning the 9th place play-offs, Fiji has collected another 8 points to add to their HSBC World Rugby 7s Series points.

Tuwai calls on fans to trust the team as they can rise from their defeat

Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s Team co-captain, Jerry Tuwai has called on the fans to trust the team as they can rise from their defeat.

While speaking to World Rugby, Tuwai says they are disappointed by the result in Hamilton but says the players improved on their performance in their 9th place play-off win against South Africa.

Fiji beat South Africa 12-5.

Tuwai adds they hope to put a better performance in the Sydney 7s this weekend.


Looking at the HSBC 7s series points table, Fiji is currently 7th with 31 points. 

New Zealand who won the Hamilton 7s title after beating France 27-5 in the final, leads the series with 63 points.

The Sydney 7s will be held this Saturday and Sunday.



Fijiana fails to qualify for cup semi-finals with loss to NZ

The Fijiana 7s team had to settle for third place in Pool A at the Hamilton 7s after being beaten 38-21 by New Zealand this morning.

Luisa Tuisolo, Raijeli Daveua and Ana Maria Naimasi scored a try each for Fiji.

The Fijiana 7s team will now face Russia at 1.52pm today in the 7th place play-off.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Men’s 7s team will take on Argentina in a must win contest at 11.57am today in their final pool match.



South Africa out of cup semi-finals at the Hamilton 7s

South Africa 7s team are out of the Hamilton 7s cup contention after England won their third pool match 26-7 against Japan.

South Africa started off their Hamilton 7s campaign on a high note  as they thumped Japan 31-5 but fell short 19-21 against England in their second pool match yesterday.

This is the first time the Blitzboks will not feature in the Hamilton 7s semifinals since its introduction in 2018.

Meanwhile, England will face France at 3.20pm in the first semifinal.

The final of the Hamilton 7s will at 8.56pm today.

Sevuloni Mocenacagi scored the only try for Fiji in the first half as Fiji trailed 21-5 at the break.

Vilimoni Botitu scored another try in the second half but it was not enough as Argentina scored a late try to seal the victory.

Fiji had to win the match to secure its place in the semifinal.

Coach Gareth Baber says he is disappointed with the loss.


Meanwhile, in the first semi-final, England will play France at 3.20 pm

Australia will most likely face New Zealand in the second semifinal at 3.42 pm.

The Hamilton 7s final will be played at 7.56 pm.

Fijiana opens Hamilton 7s campaign with 26-19 win over England

The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s have made a flying start to the Hamilton 7s by beating England 26-19 this morning.

The Fijiana led 19-5 at the break.

Ana Maria Naimasi, Asinate Savu, Raijeli Daveua and Tokasa Seniyasi all scored for the Fijiana.

They will now take on China in their second pool match at 3.36pm today before taking on hosts New Zealand in their last pool match at 9.35am tomorrow.



The key to Fiji 7s success at the Hamilton 7s lies within the players - Derenalagi

Fiji Airways Men’s co-captain, Meli Derenalagi says the key to their success in the Hamilton 7s lies within the players themselves.

Fiji Men’s team will take on Samoa in their first pool match at 12.47pm today.

Derenalagi and veteran, Jerry Tuwai have been named by Fiji coach, Gareth Baber as the co-captains for the Hamilton and Sydney 7s.

Derenalagi says the bond players have shared during this trip have brought them close as family.

He says playing in New Zealand is just like playing at home because of the enormous fan base and he feels there will be some pressure but they will try to play their hearts out.

The 12 member team that will take the field today are Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Josua Vakurunabili, Asaeli Tuivuaka, Kavekini Tabu, Apenisa Cakaubalavu, Meli Derenalagi, Vilimoni Botitu, Waisea Nacuqu, Jerry Tuwai, Livai Ikanikoda, Aminiasi Tuimaba and Napolioni Ratu.

Meanwhile, Fiji’s second match is against Australia at 6.35pm today and they’ll play Argentina at 11.57am tomorrow.

The semi-final will start at 3.20pm tomorrow while the final will start at 7.56pm tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the Fijiana team won their first pool match against England.

 



Fiji beats Samoa 19-12 in their first game of Hamilton 7s

The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s survived a late scare as they held on to beat Samoa 19-12 in their first pool match of the Hamilton 7s.

Jerry Tuwai, Vilimoni Botitu and Aminiasi Tuimaba scored a try each for Fiji.

Fiji led Samoa 12-7 at the break.

Tuwai’s try has made him the all-time try scorer for Fiji with 126 tries surpassing former Fiji 7s player Nasoni Roko who sits at 125 tries.

In another match in pool D, Australia defeated Argentina 38-7.

Meanwhile, Fiji’s second match is against Australia at 6.35 pm today and they’ll play Argentina at 11.57 am tomorrow.

The semi-final will start at 3.20pm tomorrow while the final will start at 7.56pm tomorrow.

Fijiana 7s star Seniyasi leading the DHL Impact Player with 18 points after first round

After the first round of the women’s competition in the Hamilton 7s, Fijiana 7s star, Tokasa Seniyasi is leading the DHL Impact Player with 18 points.

Seniyasi has made three tackles, two line breaks, two off-loads and five carries in their first match against England .

Coralie Bertrand of France is following closely with 17 points while Seraphine Okemba of France is in third place with 17 points.

The Fijiana 7s team will play China in their second pool match at 3.36pm today before taking on hosts New Zealand in their last pool match at 9.35am tomorrow.



Fijiana beaten 17-12 by China in second pool match

The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side’s hopes of making it to the semi-final of the Hamilton 7s suffered a massive blow after being beaten 17-12 by China in their second pool match.

Both sides were locked 12-12 before China scored a try in injury time to steal the victory.

Raijeli Daveua and Tokasa Seniyasi scored a try each for the Fijiana.

The Fijiana had to play most of the match with 6 players after Roela Radiniyavuni was shown a red card.

They will now have to beat New Zealand in their last pool match to retain any hopes of qualification.

The Fijiana will face New Zealand at 9.35am tomorrow.



Jerry Tuwai is now Fiji 7s all time top try scorer

2018/2019 HSBC World Rugby 7s Player of the Year, Jerry Tuwai has now become Fiji’s all time top try scorer after scoring Fiji’s first try in their 19-12 win over Samoa at the Hamilton 7s.

Tuwai now sits with 126 tries, one try ahead of former Fiji 7s player Nasoni Roko.


Vilimoni Botitu and Aminiasi Tuimaba scored the other two tries for Fiji.

Fiji led Samoa 12-7 at the break.

In another match in pool D, Australia defeated Argentina 38-7.

Meanwhile, Fiji’s second match is against Australia at 6.35pm today and they’ll play Argentina at 11.57am tomorrow.

The semi-final will start at 3.20pm tomorrow while the final will start at 7.56pm tomorrow.



Fiji 7s hopeful of semi-final qualification at the Hamilton 7s

The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team are a win away from making it to the semi-final of Hamilton 7s after beating Australia 19-12 in their second pool match.

Asaeli Tuivuaka scored the only try of the first half as Fiji led 5-0 at the break.

Further tries from Aminiasi Tuimaba and Apenisa Cakaubalavu sealed the win for Fiji.

Coach Gareth Baber says they have faced two tough challenges so far and they have done well to win both games.


Baber says he has told the players to enjoy themselves because the players enjoy being under that sort of pressure and people can clearly see what it brings out of them.

Fiji now needs to beat Argentina to seal its place in the semifinal.

Fiji play Argentina in their last pool match at 11.57am today.

The semi-final will start at 3.20pm tomorrow while the final will start at 7.56pm today.
