Construction on the next major phase of the multi-million dollar development at Nawi Island Marina is expected to begin mid-year, with a new resort planned to further boost tourism and create more jobs for locals in Savusavu.
Speaking to fijivillage News, Nawi Island Manager Grace Lee revealed that the resort will be the third stage of development at the marina.
She says the new project is expected to strengthen the marina’s position as a key tourism hub for the Northern Division.
Lee says Nawi Island Marina is currently fully operational, offering a range of facilities including restaurants, retail outlets, a popular pool club, and accommodation options.
She says the marina has 132 berthing docks that can cater to yachts between 9 and 85 metres in length, including superyachts.
She adds that accommodation on the island became available last year, with three single bures allowing guests to stay on-site while enjoying full access to the pool club and other marina facilities.
Lee highlights that visitor numbers reached a record high in December, with strong local and international interest during the festive season.
She says there is usually a rise in visitors during school holidays, as families travel to Savusavu.
Lee adds that once completed, the new resort will create more employment opportunities and support economic growth in Savusavu.
