Security and cleanliness in Nadi Town have been significantly strengthened ahead of the festive season, with the Nadi Chamber of Commerce working closely with authorities to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for both locals and tourists.

President of the Nadi Chamber of Commerce, Lawrence Kumar told fijivillage News that coordination with the Nadi Town Council, police and other stakeholders has been intensified as visitor numbers increase during the holiday period.

Kumar says efforts are focused on maintaining cleanliness, improving lighting and ensuring regular rubbish collection in key areas across the town, including popular spots frequented by both residents and visitors such as Wailoaloa and Newtown.

He says security has also been stepped up following discussions with police leadership, including assurances from the Officer-in-Charge of Nadi that safety will be maintained throughout the festive period.

Kumar says he personally raised security concerns with Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu during the reopening of the Nadi Police Station, resulting in clear directives to strengthen police presence in the town.

He also highlighted nightlife areas such as Martintar as a key focus, where increased police patrols will help ensure public safety once nightclubs close and crowds remain active on the streets.

Kumar acknowledged that while crime statistics in Nadi have improved, challenges remain, particularly in relation to drug-related cases.

Kumar says feedback from tourists has largely been positive, with visitors continuing to come and go without major concerns, although he noted that tourism-related issues outside the town centre fall beyond the Chamber’s direct responsibility.

He also issued a strong reminder to the public about personal responsibility during the festive season, particularly in relation to drink driving.
