Passengers travelling from Nadi to Auckland were left frustrated after a series of delays disrupted their Fiji Airways flight, with little communication and no airline representatives present to provide clarity.
A concerned passenger says passengers with confirmed tickets were first told that the check-in time would begin at 8am yesterday, with the flight scheduled to depart at 11am.
However, upon arriving at the airport, Fiji Airports staff informed them that the flight had been delayed to 6.55pm, and check-in would now open at 3pm.
She says many passengers waited patiently throughout the day, completed check-in, and proceeded to the lounge, expecting to board the flight at the revised time around 7.30pm, but to their surprise, they were told the flight was delayed again, and this time to 10.30pm.
She adds that a $30 meal voucher was given to passengers as compensation.
She says that when passengers checked online, they saw the boarding time had shifted again to 1.45am today, adding that at around 1.15am, they were informed by Fiji Airports staff that the flight had been delayed yet again, and is now scheduled to depart at 7am.
She says she had travelled from Suva, leaving home at 3am yesterday to reach the airport on time, and expressed deep disappointment with the service provided.
She also questions the absence of Fiji Airways staff at the airport to explain the ongoing delays, saying this was not the level of service passengers expected from the airline.
Passengers have raised concerns about poor communication and the absence of Fiji Airways staff at the airport during the extended delays.
According to the travel alert on the Fiji Airways website, some flights were delayed due to operational disruptions.
They say flight FJ419 from Nadi to Auckland will be delayed by approximately 7 hours and will now depart at 6.35pm today, while flight FJ418 from Auckland to Nadi was delayed by approximately 7 hours and departed at 11pm yesterday.
The national carrier says flight FJ393 from Nadi to Hong Kong was delayed by approximately 4 hours and departed at 3.30am today.
