A parent whose child was present during the school session shown in a viral social media video says families were not informed or asked for consent before a preacher addressed students, and is now seeking answers from the school's administration.
The parent, who requested anonymity, told fijivillage News that they only became aware of the incident after the video began circulating on Facebook yesterday.
The video, which has attracted widespread attention online, appears to show Christian preacher and content creator Osaslugo addressing students at a prominent school in Lautoka before singling out a student he identifies as Muslim.
He appears to tell the student that because he does not follow Jesus Christ or Christianity, he will not go to heaven.
Many are questioning whether it was appropriate for a student to be publicly singled out because of his religion in a school environment.
The parent adds that they are still not happy after seeing the video and are trying to arrange a meeting with the school principal to establish how the session was allowed to take place.
The parent further states that neither they nor, to their knowledge, other parents had been notified in advance that a preacher would be addressing students.
The incident has raised broader questions about whether appropriate approval processes were followed, whether parents should have been informed beforehand, and how religious activities are managed in schools.
We are still awaiting a response from the Ministry of Education regarding the incident, including whether permission was granted for the session, what safeguards were in place, and what action, if any, will be taken.
We have also sent questions to the Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission.
Fiji is a secular state, and the Constitution guarantees freedom of religion and protection from discrimination on religious grounds.
