FICAC is investigating the incident in which a Chinese national, who is under investigation by the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service for alleged tax fraud of more than $20 million, left the country despite a stop departure order being issued against him.
Minister for Immigration Viliame Naupoto has confirmed to fijivillage News that the matter is with FICAC.
He says they are working with FICAC and providing the information required for the investigation.
Naupoto has also confirmed that an internal investigation is underway at the Ministry of Immigration as FICAC's investigations continue.
FRCS has also confirmed that its investigation into the alleged tax fraud is continuing.
The alleged tax invasion began in 2019.
The Chinese national, who ran an electronics company in Suva, is the former director of Freesoul Real Estate Development (Fiji) PTE Limited, which was fined $1 million by the Suva High Court for environmental degradation on Malolo Island.
Freesoul lawyer Semi Leweniqila of Toganivalu Legal says he cannot disclose the Chinese national's whereabouts.
He also says the company is now under legal receivership.
