Ministry searches for family of 76-year-old man found stranded near Lomary
A 76-year-old man who was found stranded and disoriented near Lomary Secondary School almost 4 weeks ago, is now in the care of the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection.

Minister Sashi Kiran has confirmed to fijivillage that the Ministry is looking for the man's family members.

Kiran says the elderly is a welfare recipient and Ministry staff are trying to ascertain his personal details.

The man was first found by a family as they were leaving their home through the Lomary Secondary School driveway to travel to Korovisilou.

The family says the man introduced himself and told them he was married, had three children living overseas and was travelling from Suva to Lautoka.

They say he appeared confused and forgetful and had planned to continue his journey to Lautoka the following day.

The man, who uses a walking stick for support and was carrying a basket of clothes, became stranded after his vehicle reportedly overheated and began smoking. He was unable to restart it.

Concerned about his safety, the family took him into their care and reported the matter to Police.

They say the man was healthy, safe and well looked after but did not appear to be in a condition where it would be safe for him to drive or live without support.
