45-year-old Jonasa Matakibau who allegedly stabbed a farmer, resulting in his death on Boxing Day in Batinivuriwai Settlement in Wainunu, Bua has been remanded in custody by the Savusavu Magistrates Court, while the case has been transferred to the Labasa High Court.
Matakibau, who is charged with one count of murder, appeared before Savusavu Magistrate Panapasa Tawake.
The case will be called in the Labasa High Court on January 6.
Meanwhile, earlier reports indicated that the victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was involved in a violent altercation at the Batinivuriwai settlement bus shelter.
Police believe that the incident escalated into a brawl, during which the victim sustained a fatal stab wound to the chest.
The man was found lying by the roadside, and despite immediate efforts to rush him to the Wainunu Health Centre, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
