Services at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital have fully returned to normal operations as of today, following roof leaks experienced over the weekend.
Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, Penioni Ravunawa says inspections and technical assessments have confirmed that the incident resulted from faulty workmanship during roof repair works carried out under the Project Implementation Programme.
He says temporary works compromised drainage during periods of heavy rainfall, leading to the leaks.
The Ministry has formally sought clarification from the contractor and is currently reviewing contractual obligations to ensure full accountability and appropriate rectification.
They say the situation remains under close monitoring, with precautionary management measures in place to prevent any recurrence.
They add that these improvement works are part of long-overdue upgrades aimed at addressing years of inherited infrastructure challenges.
The Ministry is also working on a long-term plan to improve patient care standards and strengthen medical services for all Fijians.
