Good news for travellers flying in and out of Fiji as Fiji Airways has announced a major expansion of its Australian network with the launch of new direct flights between Nadi and Western Sydney International Airport.
Introductory fares are on sale now, ahead of the inaugural service on Friday, March 19th, 2027.
Three flights a week will open up a new direct route between Fiji and Western Sydney.
Fiji Airways says the announcement comes as Fiji continues to grow in popularity among Australian travellers.
The airline says Fiji has surpassed one million visitors over a 12-month period for the first time in its history, while the destination also recorded its highest-ever monthly arrivals in July.
It says this underscores the strength of demand and makes it an ideal time to add a new direct link between Fiji and Western Sydney.
Scheduled to operate three times a week on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays using the Boeing 737 MAX 8, the new service will provide Fijians with an additional direct connection between the two countries while driving more tourism to Fiji.
Fiji Airways says it is the first international carrier to announce services between Fiji and Western Sydney International Airport, adding more than 53,000 seats annually between the two destinations.
Fiji Airways Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Paul Scurrah says the new Nadi-Western Sydney route is a natural next step for the airline.
He says Western Sydney is one of the fastest-growing regions in New South Wales, and a direct route will provide easier and more affordable access for Australians looking to holiday in Fiji.
He says this means more visitors, more jobs and more opportunities for Fiji’s tourism industry.
Scurrah says Western Sydney is also home to one of the largest Fijian communities outside Fiji, making the route about more than just tourism.
He says it will make it easier for Fijians to stay connected with family and friends, while helping Fiji continue to grow as a destination.
He says the schedule is ideally timed to facilitate long-weekend getaways from both Sydney and Fiji, complementing Fiji Airways’ existing twice-daily services between Nadi and Sydney’s Kingsford Smith Airport.
Scurrah adds that following the launch of Western Sydney International Airport, Fiji Airways will fly up to three times daily between Fiji and the Greater Sydney region, providing a greater choice of flight times than any other carrier.
He says the early evening departure from Western Sydney and early morning arrival into Nadi will allow for seamless connections within Fiji, as well as to Tonga, Samoa and other destinations across the airline’s wider network.
Scurrah says Australia is Fiji Airways’ largest source market, and the new direct service will further strengthen connectivity while creating new opportunities for tourism, trade and business travel.
Western Sydney Airport CEO Simon Hickey says they are excited to have Fiji Airways join Western Sydney International as the countdown continues to welcome its inaugural passengers.
He says Western Sydney is one of the most diverse and rapidly growing regions in Australia and is home to more than 70 percent of the country’s Fijian population.
