The Consumer Council of Fiji is calling for stronger collaboration across government, businesses and the wider community to combat the growing threat of scams in the country.
Speaking at the launch of National Scams Awareness Week 2026 at the Grand Pacific Hotel today, Consumer Council of Fiji CEO Seema Shandil stressed that awareness alone is no longer enough to protect consumers in an increasingly digital world.
Shandil says Fiji must move beyond simply raising awareness and focus on building stronger systems, partnerships and consumer protections to safeguard people from evolving scam tactics.
She acknowledged the continued support of partners and stakeholders over the past three years, saying the fight against scams requires a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach.
The theme "Building a National Defense Against Scams," NSAW 2026 reaffirms the commitment to empowering consumers and creating a safer digital environment for all Fijians.
