Bus operators have been urged to ensure eligible students are charged the correct student fare, with the Ministry of Education receiving concerns from students and parents who say they have been charged adult fares.
The Permanent Secretary for Education, Navin Raj is calling on all bus operators to ensure that eligible students are charged the applicable student fare and are not charged the adult fare.
Raj says the Government’s Student Transport Assistance is intended to ease the cost of transportation for eligible students and their families.
Bus operators are requested to ensure that the applicable arrangements are followed consistently.
The Ministry says students and parents who are incorrectly charged an adult fare should report the matter to them or the relevant transport authority, providing details of the bus operator, route, date and time where possible.
They say they will continue to work with bus operators and relevant authorities to address concerns and ensure that eligible students receive the transport assistance provided by Government.
The Ministry says students experiencing any issues with their eTransport cards may contact the Transport Assistance Unit on 3220429 and 3220570, or email ta.helpdesk@govnet.gov.fj.
