The 51-year-old man charged in connection with the alleged tampering of drug exhibits at the Suva High Court has been remanded in custody and will reappear in court on 23rd October.
Jiuta Naivalurua Raibevu is charged with one count of Interfering with Evidence and one count of Unlawful Possession of Illicit Drugs.
Raibevu appeared before Magistrate Sufia Hamza this morning, where the charges were read to him and he indicated that he understood them.
State Prosecutor Alisha Lal informed the court that the charge statements had been served, but the prosecution needed more time to serve full disclosures.
Lal also objected to bail, saying the matter is of national interest and investigations are still underway.
Magistrate Hamza refused bail at this stage and said the matter could be reconsidered at the next court appearance.
Raibevu is the husband of a former Judicial Department employee who is now overseas.
Investigations are continuing into the alleged involvement of other individuals.
