No time frame has been given by the Water Authority of Fiji when water will be fully restored in areas that were affected by the planned Waila Water Treatment Plant shut down last night.

WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg says the reservoir levels are not at the desired levels yet but they are progressively restoring water in areas that were affected.

As of 6 this morning, WAF has restored water in the following areas:

Tamavua System: Kundan Singh, Upper Bureta, Aiwa, Votua, Panaromic, Naval Base, Wainigasau, Belinaiveli, Ritova Street, Matanitobua, Albert Lee, Raisara, Rakua, Rakoroi,Savura, Koio Village

Waila System Lelean, Dilkusha, Alfred, Lal Singh, Waila Feeder Road, Waila Housing, Duilomaloma, Navuso Village, Navuso Agriculture, Corbett Avenue, Princes Road (Sawani), Jag Lal Road, Ram Ji Sham ji Road, Bau Road, Burebasaga, Dreketi Area, Novo Area, Lakena Hill 1&2, Kings Road Manoca, Buiduna, Vetaia Wailevu, Nausori Village, Nausori Town, Vuniiviivi Hill, Manoca Industrial, Newtown Road, Mara Road, Lakena Irrigation, Crest Nausori, Edward Road.

Meanwhile, the planned temporary shutdown enabled WAF and their contractors to replace and commission two new 2MVa permanent transformers.

They say the shutdown was critical as the old transformers were over 30-years and past their design life.

They also say during the 3-hour shutdown, WAF also used the opportunity to perform urgent maintenance work to the leakage at the Waila raw water pumping station simultaneously.

WAF says the Waila Water Treatment Plant is now back online and production has recommenced.

They add that it is important to note that services will not be instantly restored as WAF will have to gradually restore water supply by refilling reservoirs, and re-pressuring the system will take time.

Water carting trucks have been providing relief to impacted customers until 11 last night, and they have recommenced at 5 this morning.
