The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has obtained a Restraining Order and a subsequent Forfeiture Order in relation to properties suspected to be tainted and linked to serious drug-related offences in the case of Alzaid Ali and Grace Katia Luivoliga.

The State had filed a non-conviction based civil forfeiture application under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

A non-conviction-based forfeiture application allows the Office of the DPP to pursue forfeiture of property suspected to be the proceeds of crime independently of any ongoing criminal proceedings.

Alzaid Ali and Grace Katia Luivoliga are facing drug related charges and the matter is currently ongoing before the Lautoka High Court.

Ali and Liuvoliga were allegedly involved in the transportation of more than 12.3 kilograms of cocaine from Vuda Bypass Road to Field 40 in Lautoka on February 15th last year.

The Lautoka High Court granted the ODPP’s application to restrain and forfeit the properties suspected to be proceeds of crime which include a Honda Fit Shuttle, registration number MH 673; a black Audi, registration number MQ 975; $75,831 held in a Westpac bank account belonging to Ali; $23,076.73 held in a Westpac bank account belonging to Luivoliga; and $6,300 found in the possession of Ali at the time of arrest and currently held in the Lautoka Police Station exhibit safe.

The Office of the DPP states that it remains committed to disrupting criminal enterprises by targeting the financial benefits derived from criminal activity.
