Thousands of people living along Princes Road, Samabula and Tamavua have been without water or have low water pressure since Thursday as continuous heavy rain has resulted in the Savura raw water intake getting flooded and blocked, resulting in reduced inflow into the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant, which has further impacted service reservoir levels.

They are yet to confirm when supply will normalise.

A Lovoni Road resident in Tamavua has told fijivillage News that they are frustrated as the Water Authority of Fiji had not even informed them before cutting off the supply.

She says it is very difficult as they have young children to look after too.

The resident also says they have not received water through water carting trucks.

WAF says their intake at the Waimanu Raw Water Pump Station is experiencing heavy silts and wash-off debris contributing to high turbidity, causing blockages to intake pumps, which reduce inflows for water treatment and production at the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant.

They say WAF divers are on standby to dive as soon as it is safe to clear blockages.

WAF is advising people to use water sparingly, store water, and harvest rainwater as an alternative.

The affected areas include Namadi Heights, Princes Road, Samabula area, Bureta Street, Rewa Street, Ratu Sukuna Road, Nailuva Road, Delainavesi, elevated areas in Lami, Panoramic, Waiqanake, Togalevu, Wrong Turn, Sakoca, Upper Khalsa, Tacirua Heights, Nagatugatu residents next to the reservoir, Tamavua Koro, Upper Ragg, Deovji Street, Tacirua Bus, Amputch Street, as well as people living along Princes Road, Seventh Day Church Dokanaisuva to Tacirua Fijian School, Vunuleba Settlement, Naisogo, Colo-i-Suva Crest Chicken, Marshall Road, Taqairua, Vunikawai, Uluibeka, Colanaivau, Valesasa and Naitaqiri Nillgrey.
