People are advised to stay indoors and away from windows and keep children and pets indoors as a Severe Thunderstorm and Heavy Rain Alert is now in force.

The areas affected are the Coral Coast, Southern, Northern, Eastern and interior parts of Viti Levu, Central Macuata and Cakaudrove province which includes Momi, Mavua, Magodro, Noikoro, Nadrau, Komave, Nuku, Batiwai, Namosi, Navuakece, Lutu, Lawaki, Nalaba, Navolau, Saivou, Kavula, Nailega, Sawakasa, Vugalei, Vuna, Nausori, Burenitu, Rewa, Wailevu West, Savusavu, Koroalau, Seaqaqa, Sasa, Wairiki, Labasa, Nadogo, Saqani, Vaturova, Natewa, Vuna and Waiyevo.

The Nadi Weather Office says a trough of low pressure remains slow moving over Fiji.

They say associated clouds and showers continue to affect most parts of the country while a moist northwesterly to southeasterly wind flow prevails over the group.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rain that may lead to flash flooding in the warning areas over the next several hours.

A flash flood warning remains in force for flash flood prone areas, small streams and low lying areas of Rakiraki, Yaqara, Tavua, Ba, Lautoka, Nadi and Sigatoka.

A flash flood alert is in force for flash flood prone areas, small streams and low lying areas of the Coral Coast, Naboutini, Vunaniu, Qauia, Nausori and Korovou.

Strong and gusty winds are also expected during heavy rain.

People are advised to keep clear of flooded creeks and drains, not to walk, ride bikes or drive through flood waters and unplug computers and appliances.
